Share Slots: keep the fields that explain a result screenshot

Before discussing a Share Slots screenshot, preserve the rule context, selected path, complete grid and result breakdown needed to explain it.

A screenshot can be perfectly sharp and still fail to explain a result. It may show the symbols beautifully while cutting off the rule that gave them meaning. In Share Slots discussions, the useful image is the one that lets another reader reconstruct an explanation. That requires more than the central picture. The selected configuration and the result breakdown may answer questions that the symbols alone cannot settle, even when every symbol is visible.

Reconstruct an eight-point example

Here is an invented classroom example, with no claim about a particular app. A three-column grid has two rows. The top row is STAR, STAR, STAR; the bottom row is MOON, LEAF, MOON. Its written rule says that three stars on the selected horizontal line give six demonstration points. The upper line is selected, and a separate completion item adds two points. The displayed total is eight points.

The first field to preserve is the full grid, including its row and column boundaries. A crop showing just three stars removes the lower row and makes the picture's geometry unclear. Were those stars adjacent positions, a selected line, or simply enlarged symbols from a detail panel? Keep enough of the original layout to establish location. When describing it in text, use “top row, columns one to three” rather than “the three symbols there”.

The second field is the selected path or line indicator. Our grid contains three stars, but the stated rule applies to the selected horizontal line. If the lower line had been selected, the same six visible positions would need a different explanation. Keep the line label or highlight together with the grid. A later reader should not have to infer the selection from whichever symbols look most prominent in the cropped picture.

Preserve the rule and its breakdown

The third field is the relevant rule entry. In this example, that means the line about three stars and six demonstration points. A screenshot of a rule table should retain its column headings as well as the cell of interest. The number six without its heading could be a count, a multiplier or a point amount. The task is to preserve the relationship between a condition and its stated result, not merely an isolated number.

The fourth field is the itemised result. Six line points plus two completion points equals eight total points. If only the total survives, someone might wrongly attribute all eight to the three stars. If only the six-point item survives, someone might think the total display is inconsistent. Keep the labels identifying both components. An explanation should connect each amount to its source before adding them, because visually nearby numbers do not necessarily share one meaning.

We would also retain the result's identifying context: the exercise name, its rule version if shown, and a result reference or time sufficient to distinguish it from another attempt. This is not a request to expose unrelated personal details. Its purpose is alignment. A grid from attempt seven and a detail panel from attempt eight cannot support one reliable explanation, even if their totals happen to match. Put paired images in a clear order.

For a Share Slots question, build a compact evidence packet rather than a long image dump. Image one can show the complete result layout; image two can show the precise rule entry. Add a line explaining that both concern the same configuration and attempt. If something had to be omitted, name it: “The line selector is outside this crop.” An acknowledged missing field is easier to resolve than a silent assumption disguised as a complete record.

Can another reader explain it?

Test the packet by asking someone to reproduce our eight-point explanation without prompting. They should identify the upper selected line, match its three stars to the six-point rule, find the separate two-point item, and add them. If they ask which line was active, the packet has exposed a specific gap. Repair that gap rather than adding several more near-identical pictures of the symbols. More images do not automatically mean better evidence.

The practical Share Slots habit is to preserve the route from condition to result: layout, selection, rule and itemised amount. It helps us answer why a displayed total was interpreted a certain way without making claims about unseen mechanics. For app information or current activity and reward-condition enquiries, keep that explanation separate from any offer question. A past picture can illustrate a result; it cannot establish that a present activity has the same conditions.
