IC7 Game: Crop a Shared-Phone Screenshot Without Losing the Problem

Use a worked IC7 Game screenshot example to preserve an error label and relevant state while removing another phone user’s unrelated details.

The useful part of a screenshot may occupy only the middle of a shared phone's screen. Above it sits somebody else's message preview; below it, an unrelated account name. Sending the whole image is unnecessary, but cutting it too tightly can remove the very clue that explains the problem. For an IC7 Game information question, we can make a better crop by starting with the question the image is meant to answer.

The frame before editing

Picture an invented help screen on a phone used by two adults. At the top is an unrelated message notification. The page heading is Practice session. In the centre, a grey Submit button sits below an unchecked box labelled “I have read the instructions”. A small status line says “Required acknowledgement missing”. At the bottom is an account panel for another task. The issue being discussed is why Submit is unavailable.

A first crop keeps only the grey button. That preserves the symptom but removes its context. A reader receiving it cannot tell whether a required field is missing, whether the page is loading or whether another condition applies. A second crop keeps the heading, acknowledgement box, status line and button. It excludes the unrelated notification and account panel. This version supports the actual explanation: the displayed requirement has not been acknowledged in the pictured state.

The example's visible message is stronger evidence than the button's colour. A grey appearance can have different meanings across interfaces, while the status line states the reason in words. Keep that wording legible. Cropping should reduce irrelevant material, not force the recipient to guess from visual style. If the line is too small, a close crop can be paired with a typed transcription rather than stretching a blurred image until it looks artificially clear.

What belongs beside the image

The screenshot does not show everything. It cannot establish which actions occurred before it unless the picture includes a relevant record. Add a short description: “Opened Practice session, left the acknowledgement unchecked, then saw Submit unavailable.” In an IC7 Game question, this separates the captured state from remembered actions. Do not imply that the image proves a tap or a completed submission if it merely shows the page after an unknown sequence.

A third crop can fail in the opposite direction. It keeps the full notification bar because the sender wants to preserve the time, but it also exposes the other person's private message. The phone's visible time can usually be stated separately when it is relevant to the question. The useful editing choice is to retain the problem's evidence and supply necessary context in text, rather than leaving unrelated information simply because it shares a horizontal strip with one useful detail.

If a problem depends on account switching, some account context may be relevant. Describe the role instead of exposing the full identity: “the practice page was open under user B”. Retain a non-sensitive distinguishing label if needed for the explanation. This is different from removing all context automatically. A crop that hides which session is active can make an account-specific question impossible to understand. The minimum useful evidence depends on the specific problem being raised.

An edit should remain an honest edit

We would describe a crop as cropped and identify any redacted area that matters to interpretation. Do not change a status word, fill the checkbox digitally or move the button to make the example appear cleaner. Those changes alter evidence rather than remove unrelated detail. Keep an unedited copy available privately if the owner needs to compare the original, and share only the version suitable for the current information question.

Now imagine the same screen after the acknowledgement is selected. The message disappears and Submit becomes available in our teaching example. A before-and-after pair can retain exactly the same useful region. This makes the state transition visible without restoring the unrelated message or account panel. Identical crop boundaries also help the reader see what actually changed; a much tighter second image could otherwise hide a new warning or another condition outside its edge.

The finished frame contains Practice session, the checkbox label, the required-acknowledgement message and Submit. The accompanying sentence names the observed action sequence. Another person's message and unrelated account details have no job in this explanation and are absent. That is a complete IC7 Game screenshot question: enough context to understand the disabled action, with the unrelated parts of a shared phone left outside the story. A useful crop preserves meaning, not merely the smallest possible rectangle.
